ATM
Visitors can withdraw U.S. dollars from their U.S. bank accounts in Panama’s ATMs. There is a daily withdrawal limit of $500, and bank charges may apply.

Bus Services 
Panama has bus transportation services called MetroBus. This is part of the planned Metro system that integrates public ground transportation in Panama City. To use the service, you will need to 
buy a Metrocard and deposit credit on it. A complete list of routes served by the MetroBus is available in Spanish here. There are also hop-on-hop-off sightseeing bus services available. With the same Metrocard, you can use the metro train services on schedule from Monday to Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; and Sunday and holidays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Car Rental
Most major car rental companies are present in Panama. Some deliver cars to the Country Inn & Suites, Panama Canal hotel upon request. As a visitor, you may drive with an international license for up to 90 days during your visit. Use of GPS-assisted mapping is recommended for driving.

Clothing 
It is recommended to wear tropical clothing when visiting Panama City, as the average temperature is 31ºC (88ºF ). There are sporadic rains, so a small, foldable umbrella is also recommended.

Country Code 
Panama’s phone country code is +507. When dialing from the U.S. to Panama, you might need to dial 011 before the country code. For example, 011-507-phone number.

Credit Cards 
Major credit cards such as American Express, Visa and MasterCard are accepted in Panama. Debit cards are not recommended for hotel payment, but may be used for other types of purchases without problems.

Currency 
Although its official currency is the Balboa, the U.S. dollar is also accepted everywhere in Panama. The exchange rate is 1:1.

Domestic Airport 
The Albrook “Marcos A. Gelabert” International Airport (PAC) is the airport that connects with all major domestic destinations. The most popular destinations are Bocas del Toro (in the Caribbean) and Chiriquí (countryside and highlands). Currently, the airline that serves all these destinations is 
Air Panama.

Economy 
Panama is one of the most stable economies in Latin America. It has the highest per capita income in Central America, and the country is considered as investment grade by Standard and Poor's, Moody's and Fitch Ratings.

Electricity 
Electricity in Panama is 110 volts – 60 cycles.

Ground Transportation
Visitors in Panama can get around Panama City easily using taxi services, bus services or car rentals.

  • Free Highways: If you plan to explore Panama’s countryside (el interior) by car, you can use the free highway to get there. Simply follow your route from the Bridge of the Americas onwards and enjoy your trip.
  • Paid Highways: There are two toll highways in Panama: Corredor Norte and Corredor Sur. Please check your planned route before driving to see if it’s convenient to use them. Confirm with your rental that your car has the Panapass Sticker for toll payment.

Language 
While the official language of Panama is Spanish, many people understand and/or speak some English. Our hotel’s bilingual staff is available at the front desk to assist you 24 hours a day.

Panama Canal 
The Panama Canal is a 48-mile marine canal that connects the Atlantic Ocean (Caribbean) with the Pacific Ocean through a series of channels and locks. It is of great relevance for international commerce and considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

The Country Inn & Suites, Panama Canal hotel has a great view of the Panama Canal's Pacific entrance. Guests can enjoy the view of the ships traveling through the canal from the outdoor swimming pool area. The hotel also offers rooms with balconies and views of the Panama Canal. People 
Panama is a melting pot of great ethnic diversity. Most of the population is of mestizo origins - descendants of Indian, African and Spanish heritages. There is also a significant representation of the American, French, Greek, Hebrew, Hindu, Italian, Lebanese and Chinese cultures.

Religion 
In Panama, there is freedom of religion. Most of the population is Roman Catholic. There are also Christian Evangelical, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Seventh-day Adventist, Jehovah's Witness and Anglicanism Episcopalian communities. Our Panama City hotel is the only one near several places of worship that offer services in English as well as Spanish.

Shopping 
Panama is regarded as a shopping destination with a number of malls near the hotel in Panama City, including Albrook Mall, MultiPlaza, Metromall, AltaPlaza Mall, MultiCentro and El Dorado Mall. The hotel is minutes from Albrook Mall, the largest mall in Central America.

Taxes 
Panama charges a value added tax, ITBMS, to purchases and services. The ITBMS tax rate is seven percent. Exceptions are hotels at 10 percent and tobacco derivatives at 15 percent.

Taxi Services 
There are two types of taxi services in Panama: Regular taxis and Special Tourism Taxis (SET). Regular taxis are painted yellow and have 
established fares per route. They can pick up at most busy streets or be reached by phone 24 hours a day by calling one of several Taxi Centers (“Piqueras” in Spanish). SET Taxis are white taxi vehicles whose drivers are better trained to serve tourists; most of them speak English. They are generally more expensive than regular taxis since they offer these additional conveniences.
