    “Moldy/Chemical Smell in the room made me sick.”

    This hotel is $166 per night but is not maintained, cleaned or have the same standards as typical $166 per night. The room was moldy and the smell was so bad upon walking in to the room that it is nauseating. There is also a pool chemical smell that permeates the lobby. There are stains all over the carpets in the rooms and hallways, moldy caulk around the tub, the toilet stopped up, the grout in the bathroom was dark in the foot path and then under the sink area it was a very light beige. When telling the front desk all of these things, they didn't act surprised at all. They had the apology down to a science (of which none of this is their fault, so good for them). Because of how dirty the hotel was, I didn't feel at ease about eating their free breakfast. I imagined a food prep area that was as filthy as the floors and bathrooms throughout the hotel and went elsewhere. There was nothing good about this stay.

    Thank you very much for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor. We take every complaint very seriously, and on behalf of our entire staff at Country Inns & Suites we apologize for the concerns you shared about your experience at this hotel. As you may see from the 5-6 previous TripAdvisor reviews we have had a positive trend in guest satisfaction this summer, but this doesn't excuse our shortfalls. We believe the cause for the humidity in that room may have been a clogged A/C drain line. The bathtub did not have mold but the caulk did need to be replaced. I have placed the room out of order since your departure and have addressed the issues in it with our maintenance team. However, it seems in your feedback you have shared new complaints that were not addresses with us at the time of departure, or anytime during your stay. We were unaware until now about the issues you had with the toilet, pool, grout, hallways, and breakfast. I am saddened that you did not give our breakfast an opportunity as I'm sure it may have been delightful. I assure you we are working diligently to ensure a similar situation does not occur again in the future.     Great hotel. Only place we have stayed in the past five years when in San Marcos. Our son graduated this past May from Texas State University. It is bitter sweet to know that it will probably be some time before we return to San Marcos.
