Things to Do in Emporia
If you’re in town for the Virginia Peanut Festival or Virginia Pork Festival, we’re just a few miles from both sites. You’ll also find Lake Gaston and the Southampton Motor Speedway less than an hour from our hotel. Don’t miss these nearby attractions while in town:
Village View Mansion – Head two miles south to see this beautiful home that was built by James Wall in the 1790s. His historic mansion gives visitors a glimpse of Virginia’s lifestyle during the Civil War and early 1800s.
Lake Gaston – Located along the Virginia/North Carolina border between I-85 and I-95, Gaston Lake provides a lovely waterfront community perfect for all types of lake fun just 45 minutes away. Rent a boat or fish for largemouth bass in this 20,300-acre reservoir.
Fort Christanna – This pentagon-shaped fort, 30 minutes from the hotel, was built in the early 1700s to defend local settlers and Native American tribes allied with the English. Gain a sense of the transitional Native American lifestyle that emerged during this period of colonization. There are still several tribes in Virginia and North Carolina today who are descendants of students educated at the Christanna Indian School.
