Hiking? Riding? Fishing? Snorkeling? You’ll find everything you’re looking for in Ocala/Marion County. Autumn in central Florida is an especially great time to get outside and enjoy the company of friends, family and neighbors at a local festival and Marion County's diverse calendar of events offers something for just about everyone.
Tucked into north central Florida in a region known as "horse country", Ocala offers visitors winding community pathways lined with oak trees and dangling trellises of Spanish moss and the opportunity to explore miles of untainted nature. If the prospect of canoeing down a crystal clear stream amid the largest sand pine forest in the world sounds appealing, Ocala and surrounding Marion County are more than worth your time. The region's freshwater streams, rolling hills and clean air remain unspoiled and have been used for Hollywood movies. Nearby is Silver Springs, a national landmark and nature theme park on 350 acres. Silver Springs is Florida's "original attraction."
The fall festival season kicks off on October 17th with not one but two free events in historic downtown Dunnellon. This year’s theme for both festivals is “Rollin’ on the Rainbow River,” celebrating the natural beauty of Ocala/Marion County with an adventure and fun-filled day for the whole family. Taking place from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Dunnellon’s Two Rivers Arts and Crafts Fall Festival starts the day’s activities with unique, handmade arts and crafts vendors and fresh, delicious foods to check out and enjoy. Artists will also be creating and displaying incredible works of chalk art on sidewalks and roads along Cedar Street and West Pennsylvania Avenue.
