My family and I stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Chattanooga, TN just off interstate 24 this memorial day weekend from 5/26 - 5/31. The hotel did not advise us when I booked the rooms that it was under renovations. When we got to the hotel we were given room 301. The 3rd floor had just been renovated according to the manager. The elevator had construction material debris all over the floor. Once we got to the 3rd floor and to our room which was directly across from the stair access, we noticed that the stairs were full of construction debris and a baby crib that was full of what appeared to be painters cloth. There was still paint on the floors, sink top in the bathroom, doors and handles, and the refrigerator. The mirrors were covered in smudge marks. The drawers of the dresser had some kind of large chips in them. The refrigerator was covered in mold on the inside and could not be opened without filling the room with stench. There was not an alarm clock or coffee pot. No do not disturb sign for the door. Only a very small trash can in the bathroom, no other can in the room. The telephone did not work when I tried to call the front desk (static). There was not even an evacuation plan in the room or the hallway. I spoke with the front desk person about the issues and they repeated that the 3rd floor had just been renovated the week before and they would be correcting the issues. The next day when my wife was in the shower she noticed that the shower still had grease pen and pencil lines in it from where the shower had been reinstalled. Not to mention that there was dried blood in the corner of the shower just above the corner shelf. I spoke with the front desk person again and they stated that they usually don't do a detailed cleaning while extended stay guest are in the room. I replied that I would like to have the room cleaned! We came back that after noon and the only thing that had been done to the room was that the mold had been wiped out of the refrigerator and the towels and trash had been changed out. The refrigerator still had a terrible odor and could not be used. This time I spoke with the manager who said he would get the room cleaned and everything taken care of, he asked for me to let them know when we left the room for the day so that they could clean. After notifying the front desk that we would be out for the day, we came back that evening to find that the room had not been touched at all. The beds were not made, the trash was not removed, all of the towels and wash clothes were dirty, they did nothing!! I spoke with the front desk person again, she came to the room with clean towels and emptied the trash for us and stated that she would speak to the manager and the housekeeping supervisor about our room, she apologized for the inconvenience. When I spoke to the manager again he asked if we just wanted to check out. I told him that we were scheduled to be there for another night, not to mention that this was memorial day weekend and all of the hotels around the area were full. We would have gladly taken another room but that was never offered. We did received a 15% discount for the stay at checkout. However at our checkout, the room still had no coffee pot, clock, evacuation plan, phone still did not work, blood was still on shower walls, refrigerator still had very strong odor of mold, drawers were still full of chips, grease pen marks still in shower, stair way still full of construction materials and debris. I chose this chain of hotels because we have had very good luck in the past. However this was not one of those times. I can understand if renovations are going on that there will be a little mess. However that area should be shut down from all guests until it can be made appropriate for them. This is not the case with this hotel.
