Valdosta revels in the moniker "The Azalea City" each year with a celebration of the flowering shrub. The March event, first celebrated in 2001, is held in Drexel Park, named for the city's former parks superintendent R.J. Drexel, who cultivated the azaleas throughout the city. Events include circus acts, fireworks, arts and crafts, music, food, competitive road races and children's events throughout the weekend.

Valdosta is home to the vital Moody Air Force Base, and every other year, the base showcases its air capabilities to the community. Aviation fans see an exhilarating exhibition of aerial acrobatics. In addition, displayed aircraft include both civilian and military models. On the Saturday and Sunday of the event, spectators thrill in flyovers by different aircraft. Guests can also observe ground displays and military simulations.
