About Tampa
Recognized as one of the nation's fastest growing cities, Tampa is a bustling port town that boasts multi-ethnic diversity and a revitalized downtown waterfront. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along Bayshore Boulevard, dubbed the "world's largest sidewalk;" or wander the quaint streets of Ybor City, once known as the "cigar capital of the world" and now a city-within-a-city offering Latin shops, ethnic restaurants, art galleries, and nightclubs. Local attractions include the 300-acre, Africa-themed Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Theme Park, and the Lowry Park Zoo, ranked among the top four zoos in the country. The Florida Aquarium is always a hit with the kids, and the Henry B. Plant Museum, formerly the site of the old Tampa Bay Hotel, is an historic national landmark. The Tampa Museum of Art features the Southeast's largest collection of Greek and Roman art, not to mention an outstanding 20th-century American collection. As for sports, the NFL's Buccaneers and the NHL's Lightning both call Tampa Bay home, and several major league baseball teams also come to Tampa for spring training.

Here's a tasty tidbit for all the sandwich snobs out there: Rumor has it the Cubano was born right here in Tampa - Ybor City, to be exact - back in the early 1900s when hungry immigrant workers queued up in droves for their daily dose of pickles, salami, roast pork, ham, and Swiss stuffed between two pieces of bread. Today, most locals claim Alessi Bakery & Deli on West Cyprus is the best place on the planet to score an authentic Cubano.
