DECATUR. Hosting an ensemble of regional and national acoustic acts, Eddie's Act is an ideal place to chill out over a few brews and good live music. A favorite of Decatur's youngish professionals, Eddie's has showcased the likes of Ani Difranco, Shawn Mullins, and Dave Sutherland. In the warmer months, Eddie's deck is a great place to get a little fresh air. Those wanting to take a break from the music can head across the hall to the pool room. Cover charges vary depending on who's playing.

NORTH DRUID HILLS ROAD. A large space, vibrantly colored, welcomes patrons who crave a little Latin-accented festivity. There's plenty to prove distracting, whether it's pub fare, South of the Border dishes, a regular slate of live music, or a large assortment of tequilas, beers, and other liquors. A youngish crowd finds much entertainment in Tin Roof, whether it be dancing, catching the game on TV, playing pool, taking part in trivia competitions, or trying their hand at karaoke. A Virginia Highlands favorite, this retro dive has been serving up great pub grub and cold brews to neighborhood folks since the late 40s, becoming a sort of local historic site along the way. Crusty Braves pennants date back to the days when guys like Matthews and Aaron patrolled the field. Check out the old timey phone booth, antique cash register, and the classic PBR and other beer-related paraphernalia ­ hey, somebody has to collect that stuff! Saddle up to one of the old vinyl bar stools, order something fried and a tall pitcher of beer, and just let the scene take over. You'll quickly start to think of Moe's & Joe's as a second home.

LITTLE FIVE POINTS. From the hokey Elvis shrine across from the main stage to the retro-style Little Vinyl Lounge, this Little Five Points classic is 100% rock-n-roll. Fun bands, loud music, and cheap beer are hot commodities at the Star, and it's not uncommon to find a few yuppies interspersed among the more rustic regulars. If you feel like taking a break from the deafening Southern rock or blues acts onstage, head downstairs to the seedy LVL, a self-described "bucket of sin with a stain-resistant skin," where the scene is laid back and the jukebox is the stuff of legends.

Take the popular Euclid Avenue Yacht Club, which promotes itself as the "most exclusive yacht club in Atlanta." Indeed, everybody from Hog-riding bikers to members of the local hard-rock and Dead Head scenes to the occasional Virginia Highlands refugees hang out at this offbeat joint. Nautical decor and colorful personalities notwithstanding, the Yacht Club serves up potent cocktails and just about any domestic brew you can imagine. Best of all, there's no cover.
