Apple River Canyon, a gorgeous state park all year round, is a great place for trout fishing, ice fishing and deer hunting. Tourists interested in history should go to the Apple River Fort and downtown Galena.  Civil War buffs will enjoy seeing the Battle of Morseville and the well-preserved home of Ulysses S. Grant. While you’re around, get a taste of the local flavor at the Stockton and Elizabeth farmer’s markets, the Autumn Craft Fair, and the Country Fair.
