DOWNTOWN. Since 1959, this family-owned eatery has been serving burgers and fries to appreciative locals. The food, although familiar, is accessed in an unusual way. Inside Val's, folks call in their orders via a series of phones. A receipt is printed out for them, and when the food is ready, they retrieve it. Unconventional, yes, but the novelty simply highlights the terrific cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, and fries. Shakes make a good accompaniment, and value is always a plus. Waits can occur, but that's just the price of Val's longevity and popularity.
