About Schaumburg

Chicagoland is checkered with quaint villages - places where suburbanites long have shopped, socialized and caught daily trains into the Windy City. Few villages exemplify this traditional dynamic as does Schaumburg, a cozy community northwest of O'Hare International Airport. Established around 1850 (although not incorporated until 1956), the township mixes endearing residential charm with a thriving business culture. Indeed, in addition to quiet, tree-lined streets, Schaumburg is home to Fortune 500 companies like Motorola and Ameritech. There's a diverse dining scene, too, particularly along Golf and Higgins Roads. Looking to burn some free time? Check out Woodfield Mall, one of the nation's largest shopping complexes; Arlington Park, with its summer thoroughbred racing; one of two Illinois branches of the massively popular Swedish design store, IKEA; and fascinating treasures like Historic Long Grove. Seeking the arts? Nearby Arlington Heights' popular Metropolis Performing Arts Centre puts on amazing shows each season. Plus, the heart of Chicago is only 30 miles away. Little surprise that first-time visitors to this northwestern suburb are pleasantly surprised at all it has to offer, and return trips are certain to be inked on their calendars.

Did you know?

Thoroughbred racing's first million-dollar race took place at historic Arlington Park in 1981, with Bill Shoemaker riding John Henry to a stunning, come-from-behind finish over The Bart. Today, a bronze statue of the Hall of Fame jockey stands on the paddock atop the park, commemorating the event and Shoemaker's marvelous achievement.
