CASCO VIEJO. [Temporarily Closed] Venture to the colonial San Felipe (Casco Viejo) district of Panama City to see this magnificently maintained chapel, which was constructed in 1756. Inside, you'll find religious paintings and sculpture, sacred relics crafted from silver and bone, and an exquisite gold altar. At the convent's entrance was once its most celebrated architectural feature, the "arco chato" or flat arch, a marvel of period construction. Unfortunately, the arch collapsed in late 2003.
