You may tend to think of Montgomery as more of a city of history rather than as a place of Elizabethan culture, but the Shakespeare Festival is quickly becoming a legend in Montgomery and throughout Alabama. Operating year-round, it is the sixth largest festival in the world, and attracts more than 300,000 annual visitors from all 50 states and over 60 countries. Plays may be from Shakespeare or other classics. Even if you don't see a production, a visit to the theatre and surrounding parks is definitely worth your time. Make a day of it by visiting the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, conveniently located nearby in the same park. Box office is open Monday through Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from noon to 4pm. Also open until 9pm on performance days.

The Flimp Festival, held the first Saturday in May, is an annual outdoor public celebration of imagination, creativity and humor. The festival is held to help raise money for the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts' educational programs. A "flimp" is a flower imp, a small creature that lives in gardens and is responsible for strange and wonderful things that happen there. Come enjoy and explore children's activities, unique art displays and an eclectic array of foods.
