About Lincoln

Lincoln, state capital and thriving home of the University of Nebraska, was originally founded developed around salt mines, where saline springs bubbled to the surface of a dry lakebed. Today, the historic Haymarket area downtown is a popular center for dining, shopping and entertainment. The old warehouse district has been restored and is now home to many restaurants, specialty and antique shops, galleries and other businesses, and is a lively place both day and evening. The capitol building is worthy of a visit. Its interior includes thousands of carvings, paintings and mosaics detailing Nebraskan history. The Lied Center for Performing Arts offers many concerts and shows, and Cornhusker football has had over 250 consecutive sold-out home games. Children of all ages enjoy the many hands-on and interactive exhibits at Lincoln Children's Museum and the National Museum of Roller Skating uniquely examines the sport of skating and displays the world's largest collection of skates and memorabilia.

Did you know?

Lincoln has adopted "Star City" as its tag line. Capital cities are generally designated with a star on maps, and truckers using CB lingo would refer to Lincoln as "Star City." Since the mid-1970s, the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau has used a special star made up of five angular "L's" as its trademark.
