About Wyomissing

Situated in Berks County along the banks of the Schuylkill River in eastern Pennsylvania, Wyomissing is a small town with a population of just under 10,000. Its nearest neighbor of substantial size is Reading, a few miles to the north. Though diminutive, this area has quite a bit to offer, including a laid-back way of life and a wealth of natural beauty. Area history can be discovered at the Berks County Museum in Reading or at the Berks County Heritage Center in Wyomissing. Visitors to the Center can learn about Gruber Wagon Works, a profitable business that helped form the city's economic base at the turn of the century. Winding country roads and acres of wooded land await visitors, including French Creek State Park and Marsh Creek State Park. Both parks offer opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and picnicking. The area also boasts the longest single span covered bridge in the state. Post-card perfect, Wertz's Red Bridge spans Tulpehocken Creek, connecting the townships of Bern and Spring.

It was originally constructed in 1867 and has stood the test of time. In 1979, it was included on the National Register of Historic Places.
