Past and present are inextricably linked in Gettysburg. The American Civil War and Abraham Lincoln's famous "Gettysburg Address" will forever be associated with this Pennsylvania city. The 1863 Battle of Gettysburg overwhelmed the small town as swarms of Union and Confederate troops converged there for the bloody three-day battle. Jennie Wade, the only civilian killed in Gettysburg, was a single woman shot by the Confederacy for feeding Union soldiers. Her home, now a museum, has been preserved and offers a glimpse into daily life during the war.
