About Billings:

Established in 1882 along the Yellowstone River, Billings is the biggest city in Big Sky country. Situated at the base of an expansive wall of sandstone rimrock, it has striking presence, which is befitting of its Wild West sensibility. The city takes its name from Frederick Billings, who was President of the Northern Pacific Railroad, and today the city serves primarily as trade and manufacturing center. In addition, the city is a stopping off point to other area attractions, such as the nearby Yellowstone National Park and the Little Bighorn Battlefield. Outdoor enthusiasts also descend on Billings to sample the area's great recreational opportunities in particular hunting and fly-fishing. For sightseers, a scenic drive up the Beartooth Highway is a must. The route was once dubbed "the world's most beautiful highway" by Charles Kurault. For all you shoppers out there, remember...Montana has no sales tax.

With a population pushing 100,000, Billings is one of the bigger cities in Big Sky Country. Over the course of its relatively brief history, Billings has enjoyed rapid growth due primarily to the oil, agriculture, and transportation industries.
