About Owatonna

According to legend, Chief Wabena heard of curing waters at a natural spring in what is now southeastern Minnesota. He moved his tribe there so his frail daughter, Princess Owatonna, could drink from the spring - and her health was restored. Today's residents and visitors still enjoy the rejuvenating effects of a pleasant town full of history, attractions, parks and family-friendly activities. Built alongside the Straight River, the city is now convenient for business and leisure travelers thanks to its location at the intersection of Highways U.S.14, U.S. 18 and Interstate 35. Architecture buffs won't want to miss the Wells Fargo Bank, with stained glass, gold leaf arches and murals - so stunning that the building was featured on a U.S. postage stamp. History lovers enjoy the Village of Yesteryear, which includes 11 buildings and a caboose dating back to the 1850s, and artistic types flock to the Owatonna Arts Center and Sculpture Garden, a Romanesque building housing numerous exhibits.
