About Salina

When in Salina, you are very near the geographic heart of the contiguous USA. This city is located in the north central area of the state and holds the title of being the state's 7th largest city. It also is proud to lay claim to the fact that it is one of the largest wheat producing areas in the world! Begin exploring this city by visiting the downtown area that boasts a number of interesting sites as well as a bevy of antique shops, retail stores, and restaurants. Be sure to swing by the lovely Sacred Heart Cathedral that showcases beautiful architecture and stained glass windows. This city offers a host of cultural venues as well. The Salina Arts Center seeks to advance the enjoyment of visual art through its interesting international collection, while the Arts Center Cinema focuses on the artistic pleasure of the big screen, and the Salina Community Theatre keeps drama alive. The nearby Rolling Hills Zoo provides fun for the kids, and the Salina Speedway offers fast-paced thrills for the whole family. Outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, and even sledding in the winter can be found at any number of the lovely area parks, including Bill Burke Park, Indian Rock Park, and Kenwood Park. Since it is almost in the very middle of the country, it makes sense that in the 1860's Salina served as the unofficial starting place for gold diggers beating a fast track to Pike's Peak.
