About Bloomington/Normal

Known as the "Beer Nut Capital of the World," Bloomington-Normal is where beer nuts came to life in 1937. But there is far more to the area than just beer nuts - it is also a thriving university town; Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan are located here, as well as several smaller colleges. Three major highways run through the city, including the infamous "Route 66," and business travelers can often be found here visiting the headquarters of large companies such as State Farm Insurance and Mitsubishi Motors. The area has responded to the growing throngs of college students, business travelers, and locals, holding on to the past while also gearing up for the future. An increasingly revitalized downtown area is now home to renovated historic storefronts and charming pubs that point to the area's colorful history. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Veteran's Parkway throbs with the lively beat of modern shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Attractions and cultural venues are widespread, including the "American Passion Play," which is heralded as one of the best such productions in the country.
