About Columbus

As it was 200 years ago, Columbus is first and foremost, a river town! Founded in 1828 on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, it served as an important connector between the southern plantations and the international cotton industry. Bringing American dreams to fruition, it is the birthplace of the formula for Coca Cola and was home to RC Cola until the 1960's. Ideally located between the intersection of five major highways, it is the third largest city in Georgia. Southern hospitality is alive and well, it's "just the way we are down here."

Did you know?

Who hasn't had dreams of exploring space? Well, here's your chance! At Columbus State University's Coca-Cola Space Center you can participate in interactive displays and explore NASA exhibits that include a replica of an Apollo capsule. For larger groups, experience the simulated mission in the Challenger Learning Center.
