Did you know?
San Bernardino made the leap from sleepy pioneer town to prominent commercial and transportation center in the last two decades of the 19th century with the arrival of train lines. The first, the Southern Pacific, laid tracks through nearby Colton in 1883 and was followed two years later by the fabled Sante Fe Line. Today, although air and trucking industries have taken large bites out of the railroad's viability elsewhere, trains still pull into and out of San Bernardino at a good rate, carrying everything from passengers to the citrus harvest.
