The quiet town of Little Rock was instantly catapulted into the public eye with the presidential election of Bill Clinton in 1992. The capital of Arkansas is the state's center for business, politics and culture. Little Rock has never been known as a tourist destination but possesses its share of attractions nonetheless. Visitors can stroll past beautiful antebellum mansions in the downtown historical district; visit the Old Mill, a water-powered grist mill featured in the opening scene of "Gone With The Wind;" or tour the Arkansas State Capitol, an exact replica (albeit significantly smaller) of the nation's capitol. Riverfront Park is a scenic spot overlooking the Arkansas River. Tourists can actually view the "little rock" for which the city was named. With an amphitheater, plazas, lush greenery and various picnic areas, the Park is a popular gathering spot.

There are 56 parks in Little Rock with more than 6000 acres! There are many state and national parks within a 60-mile radius of Little Rock, which provide recreation and camping facilities. Burns Park, located in North Little Rock, is the second largest municipal park in the nation. Only New York's Central Park is larger.
