About Bentonville
Birthplace of Wal-Mart, Bentonville is a fast-growing city with about 32,000 residents. The economy is driven largely by Wal-Mart and the Whistler Group (manufacturer of radar detectors). Charmingly old-fashioned, Bentonville has a picturesque town square ringed by mom-and-pop businesses like the Station Café, as well as the Wal-Mart Visitor's Center, housed in the same building where Sam Walton had his first five-and-dime store. Benton is a dry county (packaged alcohol sales are prohibited), so Bentonville doesn't have a huge nightlife scene although there are a few options. Most restaurants operate under "private club" permits and are therefore allowed to sell alcohol by the drink. But if you're looking for a big night out clubbing or listening to live music, better head to Fayetteville, about 30 minutes south.
