NORTH NEWARK. Built in 1796 by Israel Crane, a merchant who constructed the first NJ turnpike, this ten-room house is one of four historic structures on the grounds. Significant changes were made by James Crane in 1840, and give the house its current Greek revival flavor. Guided tours of the home feature living history demonstrations, such as open-hearth and beehive oven cooking. Period furnishings include glassware, silverware, rugs, quilts, toys, tools, and an 1816 painted bedroom furniture set owned by Paul Revere IV.

HALEDON. The Dey Mansion was built in 1740 for militia commander Colonel Theunis Dey. In 1780, Dey hosted George Washington for several months during the Revolutionary War. Today, the mansion offers a look into history with period furnishings, weapons, prints and original historic documents.

WAYNE. Although there has been a house on this property since 1740, the basic structure of the current house was built in 1763. George Washington stayed here in 1778; Aaron Burr met and married his wife here during the same period. In 1807, Elijah Rosegrant purchased the house; his son ordered major Gothic Revival alterations in 1847, including diamond-paned windows, high Tudor arches, and a gabled roof. Today, the house appears as it would have in 1890, and features a vast collection of period clothing and accessories. Numerous special events and programs through the year. NB Credit cards accepted for transactions of $25 or more.
