Did you know?
Detroit Lakes has very little in common with the famed "Motor City," but the origin of the cities' names is somewhat similar. Both were named after straits in their respective areas ("D'troit" is French for "the strait"). In the present case, a visiting priest exclaimed that one of the area's straits was beautiful, and the rest is history.
