Boys Town, renamed Boys and Girls Town in 2000, was founded in 1917 by Father Flanagan as a shelter for homeless boys. The 1938 movie Boys Town portrays the orphanage and Father Flanagan's contribution to the shelter. Spencer Tracy (as Father Flanagan) won an academy award in 1938 for his role in the movie.
