About Corbin

The small town of Corbin is situated in the southeastern section of Kentucky, located just 80 miles each from its two larger, metropolitan neighbors--Lexington, KY, to the north and Knoxville, TN, to the south. Corbin's borders cross a total of three counties, Whitley, Knox, and Laurel, with most of its geography being in Whitley. These counties boast a number of beautiful outdoor attractions, and Corbin is best known for its Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, part of the Daniel Boone National forest which spans a staggering 692,000 acres. The state park's main attraction is the "Niagara of the South," a breathtaking waterfall that cascades 60 feet into a rugged gorge. The mist from the waterfall creates a striking moonbow on clear nights. This moonbow appearance is the only of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. The area also includes Laurel River Lake, a picturesque lake that offers a number of outdoor recreational activities including swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, and trails for horseback riding. In addition to the outstanding collection of outdoor attractions, Corbin also has a very notable man-made attraction as well. Visitors can stop by the Harland Sanders Café and Museum, the site of the very first Kentucky Fried Chicken and enjoy the Colonel's original recipe as well as peruse exhibits that chronicle the fast food company's success. Other area museums of interest include the L & N Railroad Museum and the Cumberland Museum in nearby Williamsburg. In addition, some of the area's finest country crafts and antique treasures can be found at local shops and flea markets, both indoor and out.
