University of Central Arkansas UCA Colors: In 1908, W.O Wilson and Ida Waldran were charged by President Doyne with the task of choosing the new school's colors. The pair looked to their own clothing for inspiration, and settled upon the gray of Wilson's sweater and the purple of Waldran's scarf, complimentary colors that they deemed suitable. Today, those colors can be seen throughout the school and sports uniforms of UCA. UCA Mascot: The school mascot came long after the school colors. It wasn't until 1920 that the school teams were designated the "Bears", in part due to Arkansas's nickname, the "Bear State".
