Hoping to find a cure for the infantile paralysis (polio) that had struck him in 1921, Franklin Delano Roosevelt built this vacation home in 1932. FDR died while posing for a portrait and the "Unfinished Portrait" is in a museum on-site. Also in the museum are other interesting exhibits such as his 1938 Ford convertible with hand controls. The house is open for tours and there is a gift shop and a picnic area on the premises.

It is well worth the 50 mile drive southeast of Columbus to visit the Andersonville National Prisoner of War Museum. Camp Sumter, as it was known, was one of the largest Confederate prisons and was notorious for poor conditions and a high death rate. The museum has exhibits honoring POW's from the Revolutionary War through the Persian Gulf War.
